Newton and the Apple Tree | A Visual Novel by Laplacian

Created by Sol Press

’Newton’ was actually the pen name of a brilliant-minded girl!? Welcome to the time traveling visual novel, Newton and the Apple Tree. Protagonist Syuji Asanaga and his childhood friend Yotsuko Utakane, while tracking down Syuji's missing grandfather, unexpectedly ended up traveling through time.

Gravity is No Match! - Project Update #3

Welcome one and all to the third update for Newton and the Apple Tree! First of all the news a lot of you have been waiting for, Backerkit surveys should be going out to you within the week, so keep an eye on your inboxes!

It’s been a relatively slow week if you’re only looking at the progress numbers, but we’ve been doing a lot behind the scenes to prepare for our first internal alpha test!

For those of you curious about how we’ll be testing this game, we’ve opted to have our QA team run through it as each new route finishes editing. Hopefully, this means that there’ll be less of a delay between translation finishing and the game reaching your hands!

I’m looking forward to jumping in with QA myself. Maybe we’ll even be able to get some screenshots of the in-progress builds for you in the coming weeks!

Now onto the percentages! As always, these percentages will probably indicate where heroine routes split off from the main game and may be considered spoilers, so reader discretion is advised!

Translation:

  • Common Route: 76%
  • Yotsuko's Route: 100%

Editing:

  • Common Route: 56%

*All percentages are rounded to the nearest whole value.

Goody day y’all! This week has been kind of slow for me. I’ve been going through the finished scripts double-checking things and tweaking lines most of the time. The other half fighting my awful internet connection. But next week I’ll be tackling the next route full force, so I’m really excited about that.

You really see lines a different way after writing them and coming back to them later. I’m really happy I have time to look back at things and improve them. I think I’m gonna memorize this whole game from front to back by the time I’m done and all!

Since I don’t wanna go too deep about the next route, how about we talk about Syuji? He might seem like a sad loser at first, but… Well, the point is, when push comes to shove, he manages to be reliable and come through in the end. He actually surprises me sometimes. I guess that’s all from me this week, see you guys next week!

--Bango

Nothing exciting on my end this week, sorry guys! Maybe something will happen next week that you’ll be interested in reading about, but this week was pretty boring over here.

Gotta Go Fast! - Project Update 2
over 6 years ago – Sun, Jan 14, 2018 at 11:02:39 PM

Hello all, and welcome to the second project update for Newton and the Apple Tree! Things have been progressing well this week, which means that there really isn’t much to say. But we do have more accurate percentages, which will delight all of those who love numbers just as much as Yotsuko!

As with last week, these percentages will probably indicate where heroine routes split off from the main game and may be considered spoilers, so reader discretion is advised!

Translation:

  • Common Route: 76%
  • Yotsuko’s Route: 75%

Editing:

  • Common Route: 30%

*All percentages are rounded to the nearest whole value.

**The huge jump in the common route is because I’m now basing percentages off characters translated, rather than scripts translated. The huge jump in Yotsuko’s route is just because our translator never stops working.

--TBAC

Good day y’all! I’ve been wondering about what to write in these, and I think it’s a good spot to talk more about the characters. This week I got to work on Yotsuko’s route, so I think it would be nice to talk about how it was translating her.

For those of you that played the demo, I think you might have a good grasp on her basic character: a measuring/definition freak. But you’re sorely mistaken if you think that’s all she has going for her! She actually has a surprisingly caring side, and she’s really cute without even meaning to. Her route is more touching that I thought it would be at first, so you better look forward to that!

I’ve been receiving feedback from all of you, and I’ll strive to give the characters even more life in the full game. I’m thankful for all the kind people that gave their input, it helps us move forward and bring you guys an amazing game!

And I think that’s it for this week. See ya later!

--Bango

Geez, I feel like I have to write a lot now to keep up with these guys haha. This week, I’ve got some good news for you all; two big things, in fact.

First and foremost, I’m reworking the game, namely the narration, into present tense. As the narration comes from Syuji and not an outside narrator, I think it’ll be a lot nicer to read in first person, so look forward to that!

The second piece of big(ish) news is that I’ve been looking at all the feedback on the demo and working on correcting anything reported to me. Fortunately, I’ve caught most of the issues on my own already, but I’ve been keeping an eye on any reports I get and making sure I double-check each and every one of them.

Other than that, progress has been pretty smooth so far, I just hope that Bango slows down a little bit for me, he’s a monster. That’s about all there is to report on my end, so here’s hoping I have more fun stuff to report next week!

Thank You for Making This Project A Reality! - Project Update 1
over 6 years ago – Sun, Jan 07, 2018 at 12:27:10 AM

Thank You for Making This Project A Reality!

Hey everyone, this is TBAC, project manager for Newton and the Apple Tree! This will be the first in a (hopefully weekly) series of posts that will keep you updated on the translation status of the game.

First of all, I’d like to extend a massive thank you from everyone at Sol Press for your support during this Kickstarter. We’re blown away by the amount of money raised, and delighted that we raised enough to cover three light novels and the special episodes. Work on these will begin after we’ve finished the main game, with the light novels actually needing to be written by Wasabi Ono first.

With that out of the way, I’d like to give the rest of the team the opportunity to introduce themselves:

Bango, Project Translator

Nice to meet you! First of all, I’d like to thank everyone that supported us to get this project started, I’ll do my absolute best to not disappoint! I’m so happy to work on this visual novel I don’t even think I can put it into words, but I can try! Let’s see what I can write weekly (hopefully) in this corner!

Bango’s Best Girl: Lavi Gier!

Adam Haffen, Project Editor

Hello again! I’m back for yet another game, and this one is another gem. I’m loving every minute of working on this for you all, so I look forward to hearing what you think of it! I’ll try to keep things interesting on my end, I know you’re all just dying to hear about correcting forms of “your” fifteen times over.

Adam’s Best Girl: Emmy, of course! Although I made a blood oath with Bango (he beat me in Smash Bros.) that I'd say Lavi...

Kazumi, Systems Engineer

Why hello there! It’s good to be back for another game, and as I have a weak point for time traveling troubles, looking over the files to make sure everything is where it belongs will be a treat! Wrestling with this game’s engine is a challenge, but I will give it my all so that Bango’s and Adam’s work is not wasted.

I expect to have the least interesting tales to tell from my corner, so I am curious as to what you will want me to share in the following updates.

Kazumi’s Best Girl: Yotsuko, but Haru is also very precious to me.

Vodoka, Image Editor

Yo, what's up. I have way too many projects, and now Newton is another one to join the mix. My job is going to be turning all of the Japanese graphics in the game into English, and everybody who played the demo already saw some of that stuff. It's pretty sweet being part of a Kickstarter as successful as this, so hopefully, we can make the release as good as possible to match the hopes and dreams of everybody.

Vodoka's Best girl: Lavi

And finally, I’d like to give some progress numbers. Be warned that these percentages will probably indicate where heroine routes split off from the main game and may constitute as spoilers, so reader discretion is advised!

Translation:

  • Common Route: 50%
  • Yotsuko’s Route: 36%

PS: If there’s anything you’d like us to talk about in these posts, or any behind the scenes knowledge you’d be interested in hearing about, just let us know! We’ll do our best to bring as much information to you as we can.

Message from the President of Sol Press

I would like to thank each and every one of you for your backing our project. Thank you so much for putting your faith in us and Sol Press, and for loving the content that we love. As we move forward into 2018, I hope that all of you remain as excited as we are for the plans that we have in store. Raising over $88,000 is a huge accomplishment, so thank you for making this project possible.

As always, you can reach me or anyone on our team through Discord.

Sincerely,

Michael “Xeviax” Valdez

48 Hours Left! New Stretch Goals!
over 6 years ago – Wed, Jan 03, 2018 at 12:49:03 AM

Hello once more, everyone!

With just under 48 hours left in the Kickstarter campaign, it’s about time we announce our hidden stretch goals! We’ve got three more light novels for you if we manage to reach all three, each of which will work just the same as the three previous ones. They’ll all be written and released in Japan as a result of this campaign, and will be translated for a Western release both digitally and physically through BackerKit. Backers who got The Laws of Inertia tier or higher will also receive the digital releases as part of their reward.

First up, if we manage to reach $104,000 in pledges, it’ll unlock Alice’s after story light novel! Following that, at $121,290, we’ve got Emmy’s after story light novel! And finally, if we get pledges totaling $138,640, Haru’s after story light novel will round out the group!

Here are the sample images of the covers!

Stretch Goal Three Met! Onward to Stretch Goal Four!

Thank you so much for all of your support! Thanks to you guys, we've just made our third stretch goal for Ilsa's side story! You won't recognize her from the demo, but she plays a very important role in the story of Newton and the Apple Tree, and we're sure you'll enjoy her just as much as the others.

Ilsa's light novel has been funded!

All of your support has been out of this world, and we're very excited to be bringing you these light novels!

There's still time to fund the fourth stretch goal, which is the light novel based on Yotsuko and her after story!
